The effects of sensory-stimulating shoe insoles on standing balance control and neuromuscular responses.

Balance control is important for performing essential functional tasks involved in everyday life, such as standing, walking, reaching, and sitting. Our study aims to investigate how innovative shoe insoles, designed to stimulate foot skin receptors, may improve standing balance and how muscles and nerves work to keep the body upright.

Participation involves 1 testing session of approximately 2-3 hours at The University of Queensland, St Lucia campus.

To be eligible you must be:
  • 60+ years of age.
  • Able to stand and walk unassisted (i.e. without use of an assistive device, e.g. cane).
  • Willing to wear shoe insoles during balance tasks
