A Day by the Parramatta River

Parramatta is fast becoming a second major hub of Sydney. With many plans to expand the Parramatta CBD, it's sure to become a much more vibrant place.
But nestled on its outskirts remains one of its tranquil spots, the Parramatta River.
It's a great spot to bring the kids along with a playground located on the Northern side of the river (near Elizabeth Street) which includes a slide and rope climbing equipment.
If you are a bit of a bookworm, there are plenty of picnic tables and benches along the river where you may take out a book and read.
.
Dogs are also welcome provided that they are on a leash.
There are also many eateries around the area where you can grab a bite to eat including
Port Bar Restaurant and, as I recommend, any of the cafes and restaurants lined up along Church Street.
For those of you who love a good stroll, there is a walking trail right along the river that follows past Sydney Olympic Park and reaches Ryde Bridge. For a more in-depth read on this, read Tim Falk's
Parramatta River Walk article.
And during the evening, a water fountain is released from the foot of the Wilde Avenue bridge with green and yellow lights shining from behind which illuminates the water.
A visit to the Parramatta River is a great day out for anyone with the Parramatta CBD right next door, walking trails, seating areas and a playground. There's something for everyone!
