Between 1791 and 1858, many Australian and English-turned-Australian artists captured the landscape and culture of the time in paintings, sculptures and other classic works of art. These works were intended to show England what Australia looked like. More than one hundred years later, some things have changed but some things have stayed the same. This Australian Heritage Week event juxtaposes those variations.
The Artist in the Landscape: is a self guided artist walk that trails through
Parramatta Park . Visitors will experience the cultural landscape of the heritage park by exploring the works of eighteenth and nineteenth century artists such as
Joseph Lycett and
John Lewin , and by following the accounts of visitors like French navigator
Louis de Freycinet . The track will contain large scale reproductions of works by the artists.
The
is a
Heritage Week Event that will take place between 14 April and 21 May, and is open to the public from 9.00am until 5.00pm daily. The event is free to attend. You will find a
map of the trail on the Parramatta Park website.
