This event will be a beauty! There are many festivals and cultures, but here you can be prepared to run free in a rich playground of cultural delights!

The event has been described as [i]"Many Cultures. One Sydney."[/i] It will be a colourful and charming mixture of dance, music, parades, theatre productions, food and films.



Starting in 2010, the Parramasala Festival has grown into a signature event celebrating the diverse cultures of greater Sydney and indeed New South Wales.

It will be held this year from 15th to 17th March 2019 in Parramatta of course! The festival promises to take things to the next level with the biggest celebration of Sydney's vibrant cross-section of cultures yet - from South American to Middle Eastern, Indigenous Australian to South East Asian, and everything in between.

Every year, the massive three-day extravaganza sees over 35,000 Sydneysiders converging on the streets, laneways and parklands of Parramatta. The city turns into an area of fascinating experiences, including cutting-edge live music, lively dance and theatre, a parade of splendid colour, spectacular costumes, and beating rhythms.


The festival will also have a brand new busy food precinct where you can buy mouth-watering and delectable delights. There will also be a bar area where you can sit back with a drink as you watch the best of what Parramasala and Parramatta have to offer.

Friday 15th March
FESTIVAL OPENS ON THE FESTIVAL STAGE, Prince Alfred Square. All festival stage performances are free.

[b]I WILL EAT WITH YOU - PARRAMASALA LONG TABLE BRUNCH[/b]
Sunday will see this intercultural celebration of food with entertainers from the World Dance Congress and the delights of the World Food Market stallholders. You can come and share a table, tell your story, and everyone is welcome.

[b]WORKSHOPS[/b]
You can learn about different cultures through art and play! The whole family can enjoy a range of activities at Parramasala.

There are sustainable craft workshops including Pacific Island weaving, Indigenous art with eel trap and spear making, plus recycled art workshops run by The Bower (Sydney's reuse and repair centres).

The music will be performed by the sounds of Indigenous storytelling, Sufi poetry, and music including Arabic drumming and West African Rhythms Drum and Dance.

You could always try some dancing and learn some new moves which will be performed here. The styles that will be demonstrated include Indigenous, Bollywood, Pacific Island traditional and fire dance, belly dancing and there will even a street dancing competition!



FOOD
This year, there will be food from several places around the world. You can feast on international cuisine, from spicy Indian to sizzling satay and souvlaki - your taste buds will be working overtime!

One of the best features of Parramatta is its diversity and the best way to experience this cultural phenomenon at Parramasla is through taste/food.
