In days gone by, the parlour room in a private home played a multitude of roles. It was the place where guests were welcomed, courtships conducted, games played, and refreshments served. Now Parlour Coffee at Burleigh Heads has given this charmingly old-fashioned concept a modern makeover, welcoming locals and visitors to a 'home away from home'.

Parlour Coffee has been open since June 2015, but I've only recently discovered it. I enjoyed the best spiced chai latte of my life here recently - but regulars also rave about the coffee, West African hot chocolate, specialty milkshakes, cold pressed juice and organic soft drinks. These can be enjoyed with freshly baked goods such as muffins, cakes and other sweet treats, in clean and contemporary surrounds.

For those looking for breakfast, there's a range of options, including spiced fruit loaf, smashed avocado with crumbled feta on toast, and pan scrambled eggs with housemade relish (served with either pork and fennel sausage, or rashers of bacon).

A range of mouth-watering lunch options are on the menu too; think salads, rolls (such as beef brisket with mustard, green leaves, red onion and house made pickles) and the flagship Ploughman's board served with a warm damper roll.
