The Morrison, a swanky eatery on George St, has expanded to include a burger joint. People can pop in for a $10 burger in hip surroundings; the venue is open from lunchtime, through the afternoon and into the night every day of the week.

Designed by famed chef Sean Connolly, the current menu includes five tempting burgers. The burgers are a little on the small side, so if you're hungry it would be a good idea to grab one of the five sides on offer, which will only set you back an additional $6-8.

The highlight of the menu, not just for its striking aesthetic value, is the black widow. A beef patty is set atop a shiny black charcoal bun; the meat is delicious, thick and tender, complimented well in the burger with a hot sauce and pickles, tomato and lettuce.

The Indian 'vego' bahji burger consists of a tasty, aromatic patty with hints of cumin in a sweet, fluffy, brioche-like bun with tomato and lettuce. The accompanying yoghurt and mint sauce beautifully sets off the flavours of the patty.

No burger experience would be complete without a side of hot chips. Cooked in duck fat, the chips ($8) are crunchy, thick and perfectly salted. If you're after something a little lighter, try the cabbage and parmesan slaw ($6); with thin slices of red onion, it's more like a refreshing salad and a nice palate cleanser after a burger.

The beer battered onion rings ($6) are also worth a try. Crisp, delicious and, most importantly, not too greasy, these rings hit the spot with a little tomato sauce squeezed from the very cute tomato-shaped bottles.

The décor is reminiscent of a diner, replete with bar tables and stools, plush booths and quaint (and low) tables. The service is attentive and friendly, and the waiters were very obliging when asked for all the ingredients in the 'vego' burger patty (in order to determine the carbohydrate value for my diabetic diet). The music is a mix of contemporary and classic songs and, while it seems a tad loud, it's not so overbearing as to be a conversation killer.

is an ideal spot to fill up on some burgers before heading back to work, hitting the town for a night out or visiting Circular Quay.
