Enjoy free camping in Victoria this summer and beyond. Between 1 December 2024 and 30 June 2025, camping in 131 of Parks Victoria’s paid campgrounds will be free. Existing bookings for this period will be honoured and refunded, which is a huge win for the over 15,700 existing bookings.

But if you haven't already booked, now is the time. Camping fees will be updated to $0 in the booking system soon, where applicable. If you choose to book now (before camping fees are updated), you will receive a refund in the coming weeks as you can now book your campsite for 'Free'.

I assume this is a way of ensuring a whole lot of people don't book out campsites and then don't turn up.

Free camping is between 01/12/2024 -- 30/07/202

Fees will continue to apply for roofed accommodations like huts and cabins at Wilsons Promontory, the unique pre-pitched Discovery Tents at Point Nepean National Park, and remote hike-in campgrounds along the Grampians Peaks Trail.

Bookings are essential, even though there is no charge. There is a maximum booking limit of two sites per campground in a single transaction to ensure more people can enjoy camping in nature during this time.

Regarding future-proofing 2025 bookings, mark the 2 - 6 December 2024 in your diary, as then you can also book up until 31 August 2025. Easter holidays, anyone?

THE WHY?
This initiative gets people outside and more active, increasing tourism income as more families venture into regional areas.
