Do you want to know the perfect way to kickstart your weekend? Parkrun is the answer.
Parkrun has travelled far and wide to get here to Australia. It started in the UK and has since established itself across many countries. It is a free, timed 5km run along the esplanade of beautiful New Farm and Teneriffe. The run is suited to everyone and anyone. If the river isn't your cup of tea, then head down the Gold Coast and run along the beach where two other Parkruns have since been established also.
The New Farm Parkrun has become so popular, that it is not unusual to get over two hundred participants each Saturday morning, making it one of the largest Parkruns in the country. The community which participates in Parkrun is encouraging and friendly. Their are all types of people there. You have the sprinters, the runners, the joggers, the walkers, the volunteers, people with dogs, and people with prams, – anyone is welcome, that is the main message.
You must register online before heading down to the park on a Saturday morning. The barcode that you will be given upon registration is the key to your time being recorded and published on their website. The website will keep track of your progress, times, attendance and personal bests.
It truly is a great way to start the weekend. Exercise always makes you feel wonderful, and what a better course than along the riverfront. And don't forget to pack your grocery bag every second week to collect your fruit and veg after your run at the New Farm markets. The run starts at 7am each Saturday morning in front of the powerhouse. I hope to see you there one day.
