Perhaps you are tired of running on your own (it does take quite a bit of motivation) or maybe you just want to get a healthy start to the weekend.

[ADVERT]You may not be ready for a marathon but you would like to give some exploratory running a go.

Then you might want to try the ParkRun around the lovely Albert Park Lake.

It's a gorgeous place to run. It's circular; you can't get lost. There are stunning views out over the water and there is always something interesting to look at from territorial swans flapping their wings to every conceivable breed of dog tugging at their owners.

The run is not an event. The only person you are competing against is yourself.

The free to enter runs are timed each week so you can see how much you are improving and nudge up your personal best.

It doesn't matter what age or ability you are. You could just be starting out or a seasoned runner. You might look great in running gear or a bit frumpy in your old shorts.

It doesn't matter. Everybody and that means every body is welcome.

Some people even take their pooches so they can get some exercise as well.

The run is 5km and happens every Saturday at 8am.

You just need to register in advance before you attend the first time. You can register here.

You only have to register once and after they you just turn up and your times are recorded.

After the run you can socialise with your fellow runners if you wish over a coffee at the Carousel Cafe which is by the water's edge.

Perhaps you would also like to get involved in helping out. ParkRun is run by volunteers and they can always use some extra hands to help out with marshalling and so on.

This is a very friendly group. Go on get your old runners out of storage - you'll be fine.

Do you of any Walking group? I don't run but do love to walk and I compete in the FunRun/Walks twice a year and would love to increase this.
