Parkinson's Unity Walk and Run Sunday 25th August, 2013.

Yes it's that time again. The 6th Parkinson's Unity Walk and Run is fast approaching. Fantastic Prizes are up for grabs and a worthy organisation will allow Parkinson Sufferers to benefit. As of May, NSW has raised $820. Since 2008, when Parkinson's Unity Walk and Run in Australia began $1.2 Million has been raised. Parkinson's Disease (named after James Parkinson, an English Doctor, who published An Essay on the Shaking Palsyis in 1817). A truly devastating, second, most degenerative disorder of the central nervous system, affecting the midbrain region cells. Symptoms include shaking, rigid, slow movements, difficulty walking and gait (ankle to heel section). Thinking and behavioural changes, dementia, depression, sensory functions, and sleep irregularity are all wrapped into one disabling disease. The majority of diagnoses are over 50 years of age.

Time to stamp it out, awareness brings funding, funding means science, science means more extensive treatment and support available. Modern treatments are effective at early stage Parkinson's onset. Anyone can experience Parkinson's, Michael J Fox and Muhammad Ali, are two famous figures that have stepped up awareness for this cause. They have no known cure or cause.

To raise money for funding and awareness, you can choose between the 8km, 4km course, or a Walk around Sydney Olympic Park and the Sydney Athletics Centre. Both courses will be marshaled and sign posted. Walk part or the full course, it's up to you.

Commencing with the 8 km course register 7am for 8am start; 4 km course 8.30am registration for 10am start. Presentations 8 km at 10am and 4 km at 10.45am. Walk registration 9.30am for 11am Warm Up and 11.30am start. Walk concludes at 12.30pm with Entertainment, Fun and well earned lunch on offer.

Parkinson's NSW in appreciation for helping raise awareness would like to honour all participants with a Certificate of Appreciation.
