Still reeling from the effects of the global pandemic, the events industry has struggled to perform in Kenya and the world over. Enter the Park & Chill gig held every weekend for some months now at the Carnivore Grounds in Lang'ata, Nairobi. With this simple, yet ingenious event, Nairobians (and all who wish to attend) have been given the perfect opportunity to enjoy their weekend just like 'old times', maybe even better!
Hosted by a team of DJs, the gig is all about enjoying great music with you and your friends, in the comfort of your jalopy! No rules about confining yourselves to within the vehicle either; lawn chairs, foldable tables, whatever furniture you may bring along to truly chill is all left to you should you so desire. Despite there being drinks and food for sale within the grounds, you may carry whatever poison(s) tickles your fancy at no charge, and with no caveats to what you may carry to consume, food and/or drink.
The gig starts at noon and carries on till 9p.m., in line with current government regulations as well as the ongoing 10p.m. - 4a.m. nationwide curfew. Charges are very fair (me thinks) at KES 1,000/= per car with one occupant, and KES500/= additional charge per extra passenger in the car. The charge carries a redeemable voucher per ticket (redeemable for food and/or drink), thus why I find it a very pocket-friendly weekend plan. This particular day, the 27th of February, was the 14th edition of the Park&Chill gig and it was fun times!
