I am an academic and writer living in Melbourne. I love to travel and I also love writing about all the things Melbourne, regional Victoria and other parts of Australia have to offer.
Ooh la la - all things French
If you love French food and wine, French culture and the French way of life then this is a must. Or if you just want to explore what it might be like to be in France for a day, then you must also come along to this festival which is now in its 8th year. Similar to a French village market there will be lots of food and wine, activities, socialising, fun and a chance to practice your French.
On November 18-20th, 2016, Como House will be transformed with colours of red, white and blue; French music will be heard, mime artists will roam the gardens and children will be entertained with many activities all around a French theme.
France comes to Como House
There will be French kitchen demos with French chefs, a wine courtyard, a mini French pop-up village and French Bulldogs can take part in the dress up competition. A fashion parade will transport you into the world of French style and that certain je ne sais quoi when it comes to fashion. For photographers and film buffs, inspiration can be gleaned from the photography exhibition and contest and the Cannes Film zone.
Dress up your French Bulldog
And then, of course, there is the food; pastries, croissants, cheese, chocolates, sausages, all with their distinct French character and trademark. French wine to accompany all this delicious food will add to the enjoyment of the day and will transport you to a typical French village market day. Roaming French performers and the waiter race will keep you entertained while you enjoy your lunch, snack or afternoon tea. Once you have sampled the delicious food cooking demonstrations at My French Kitchen, you will be inspired to try your hand at cooking some delicious food at home. If you are a chef (or aspire to be one), you can also take part in one of the French Masterclasses being offered at additional cost.
If all the food and wine has made you a little tired, you can take a relaxing walk through Giverny Gardens, a recreation of the original gardens, and admire the beautiful flowers and water features. For even more energetic exercise, the Soiree Musette (from 5pm Saturday) will have you dancing energetically to a French gypsy swing band.
Fun for all
