I am a world traveller & a mom of two, (8 & 6). I love to meet people, and am fascinated that there are 7 billion stories out there to be explored. I think Melbourne is the most happening city to live in with all the fun activities around town.

There is not a single parent (excuse the pun) who would disagree with the statement that parenting is one of the most challenging undertakings as a human being. The multitude of books, magazines, articles and blogsites is a testament to the prior statement, as parents turn to professional help, looking for answers in challenging situations.

Flyer for the Program

A free seminar entitled "Tuning in to Kids" is being held at the Hallam Community Learning Centre, for six weeks starting 6 August to 10 September, on Tuesdays only. Each session will last for approximately 2 hours, starting at 12:45pm, with afternoon tea, and ending by 3pm (just in time to pick our children up from school). If you have younger children who are under the age of attending school, there is free on-site child-care for those who register for the program.

This program is being organized by Monash Health (formerly known as Southern Health), which is the largest public health service in Victoria, aiming to provide better health from birth up to the golden years. What you can expect from the program are some professional tips and guidelines to improve existing relationships with children, specifically pre-schoolers. Each parent wants the best for their child, and tries his/her best to attain this objective, whether that means giving them the best opportunities to learn, giving them the best set of morals, teaching them essential tips for living a good life, taking them on trips and adventures, buying the best clothes/toys, etc.

Teaching a child how to ride a bike is a way to bond for a parent

Shortage of time is an important reason why neglect of children is more common than it should be. It is commonsense that children at a young age require emotional and psychological grooming, which sets the tone for their teenage years, leading up to adulthood. New research in the face of new challenges in the world of parenting is also being conducted, and forums such as these seminars are a good way to learn and perhaps implement those strategies.

Doing activities with children is another way of spending quality time with them

I have often found myself wishing for some "intervention" when I feel ill-equipped or simply at a loss in the face of a difficult situation, often wondering what is the 'right' answer or the 'right' way to handle the situation. For these tricky moments, the program will provide some insight to parents on what approaches could be applied. Besides, for many of us feeling the pressure of 'good parenting', it is an opportunity to meet other parents who are in the same boat, facing similar situations.

If you live in the South Eastern suburbs and are interested in attending the program, registration is essential. Please contact Ann-Maree on 8558 9041 or Rachel on 8768 5100.

I managed to attend the whole six weeks of the parenting course and I must say it was a life-altering experience. I have picked up some excellent tips and ways of dealing with children and they're working wonders for us. Cheers.
