Are you looking for the perfect gift for that discerning person or couple who literally have everything? Perhaps, the lucky recipient is your significant 'other' who already has enough undies, socks and ties to replenish the local Op shop shelves for a year, but still the perfect gift proves elusive. Much to my delight, I think I may have discovered the exclusive, most ideal gift for those special people in your life!
Recently I purchased a gift voucher for my better half from Paradise SeaPlanes, promising the ultimate Sunshine Coast experience and believe me, this is one thrill ride that should be on everybody's bucket list. From the ever-so-smooth water take-off to the gentle return to base landing, our Seaplane flight was magically spectacular.
The Seaplane adventure with Paradise SeaPlanes is no ordinary flight … this is a unique seaplane experience on board an historic four seater Wilga Warbird, literally the ONLY Wilga 80 warbird on floats, in the Southern Hemisphere, offering customised flights.
Three of the historical Maroochy River boathouses along Bradman Avenue
The historic Wilga Warbird excels at providing passengers with spectacular views, all thanks to its ability to fly low and slow and with more glass than a helicopter, ensures its occupants can enjoy an-almost 360 degree view.
This was my choice of adventure for my special 'other' and is one of the most popular flights with Paradise SeaPlanes. Taking off from the warm waters of the Maroochy River, the Sunshine Coast Adventure flight follows the river to the ocean. Heading south over the Mooloolaba harbour, the flight path follows the pristine coastline to Caloundra, before returning for a gentle touch-down on the calm Maroochy River waters.
Take off is once again from the Maroochy River, heading north. The flight follows the Maroochy River to the coast, then banks slowly north over Mudjimba Island, follows the beaches past Mt Coolum, over the Noosa National Park and biosphere to Noosa River and return. This thrilling adventure flight is also the one to look out for whales and their calves, enjoying the warmer waters of the Sunshine Coast.
Views towards Mooloolah River and Mooloolaba Wharf on Parkyn Parade
Aptly named the Big Beach Watch, the Surf Patrol Adventure takes in the whole of the Sunshine Coast from Noosa to Caloundra. Taking off from Maroochy River, the flight banks slowly north, following the beaches to Noosa Heads National Park, circling over Noosa Village to return southward, along the stunning coastline, all the way to Caloundra and the north end of Bribie Island and the Pumicestone Passage Marine Park. Please Note: The maximum combined passenger weight is limited to 175kg for this flight.
The Mooloolaba Rock Wall (on the left) is popular for walks, swimming, sunset viewing and fishing
This coast to hinterland experience is a new adventure flight for Paradise SeaPlanes. Joy riders will enjoy a low-level reconnaissance flight along the beaches from the Maroochy River to Noosa Heads and then climbing to 1500 feet for the journey towards the Glasshouse Mountains. Imagine the thrill of floating past these majestic volcanic plugs and the spectacular hinterland. Return to the Maroochy River for a gentle landing like the dreamtime black swans. Please Note: The maximum combined passenger weight is limited to 175kg for this flight.
The Double Island Adventure has to be the ultimate experience for those who want to really use the Wilga for what it was designed for. Once again take off from the Maroochy River, travelling north to follow the beaches past Noosa and along the spectacular Great Sandy National Park to Double Island Point. Thrill-seekers will absolutely fall in love with the brilliant vantage views of Rainbow Beach and the unique towering sand hills, before returning to touch down on the Maroochy River. Please Note: The maximum combined passenger weight is limited to 165kg for this flight.
Enhance your memorable trip with Paradise SeaPlanes by adding an optional extra:
DOORS OFF ON ANY FLIGHT
Choose doors off as an optional extra with any flight for a flat rate of $50 per flight (NOT per passenger). This experience is pretty FULL ON, with wind, noise and nothing between you and the outside … sounds scary to me, but I can imagine there are many daring adventurers out there who would love nothing more than the sensation of being as free as a bird.
Photo books are available to relive and re-enjoy your experience over and over again, with stunning, customised photo books.
Paradise SeaPlanes provide options to make your special event or romantic occasion even better. Take your relationship to new heights with the Romantic Picnic Package online here or simply add extras like delicious platter boxes, photographers and/or musicians; banner tow fly-by or even a Rolls Royce transfer to your flight. The sky is literally your limit!
This is such a fabulous gift idea for so many reasons:
I was impressed with the ease of pre-purchasing the printable gift voucher; organising the actual booking at a later date proved to be seamless and the absolute professionalism displayed by local company, Paradise SeaPlanes at all times, was exemplary.
It's one thing to know what our beaches look like from ground level but in the air, it's a totally different experience - the spectacular colours along our coastline truly leave one breathless!
Trip Advisor ranks Paradise SeaPlanes in the top 10% of worldwide experiences
Great article and photos Elaine. Congrats on the gold. Nothing like the view from light aircraft. I would recommend the door off option. I'm scared of heights but with nothing between you and the ground the scariness is not there. I've flown over 100 hours in light aircraft with the door off and enjoyed 99.9% of them.
