Located in the Adelaide Hills, was established by fourth-generation pear grower Damian McArdle on the 80th anniversary of his family's Chamberlain Orchards. He taught himself to make handcrafted perries using 100% fresh juice from the orchard's tree-ripened fruits. For those who haven't tried one before, these perries can be purchased directly from their
website .
In diversifying the business, they also have a
shed door which serves artisan sourdough wood oven pizzas as well as an extensive range of drinks including coffee, beer, wine, cider and non-alcoholic juice. The shed door just celebrated its fourth birthday and is open every Saturday and Sunday from midday to 4pm. It often reaches capacity, so the advice is to book in advance if you plan on visiting. After your meal, you're welcome to go for a stroll in the orchard. Lunch bookings can be made
online with a deposit of $15 per person.
Various
experiences such as tours, tastings, picnics, blend-your-own and pick-your-own are held from time to time too. Do keep an eye on their
Facebook page for upcoming dates. The pear season is usually during the earlier months of the year. I had the opportunity to pick my own pears on April Fool's Day and went home extremely fruitful with more than two kilograms of
corella and
winter nelis. Other varieties were ready for picking too, but I particularly loved the fabulous red blush of the
corella and the sweet rich buttery flavour of the
winter nelis.
is located at 169 Murphy Road in Paracombe, just a short 40-minute drive from Adelaide city. I would recommend that you check them out. Damian was really friendly and helpful and I'm sure you'll have as enjoyable a day out as I did.
