Wine, food, sunshine and great times
If you've never been to an event at Paracombe Wines, keep an eye out for the next opportunity! I had the good fortune to attend their 'Fabulous Ladies High Tea' held on the 25th September.
On arrival, Paracombe's cellar door opens to a light-filled, spacious room with a spectacular view over the vines and the valley. The tickets to this event were $75, and included a high tea and free flowing glasses of their beautiful wines.
We were greeted with a glass of the refreshing and elegant Pinot Noir Chardonnay Sparkling, as we found our seats and explored the cellar door. It was a gorgeous sunny day, so we sipped from our glasses and stood on the back deck soaking in the view.
The event was catered by, and held in support of the Country Women's Association of South Australia (CWA). The CWA held a stall of wonderful home made goodies including lemon cordial, biscuits and crafts. There was also an opportunity to buy their never-fail scone mix created in partnership with Lauke Mills, and to pre-order their Calendar of Cakes cookbook.
The owner of Paracombe is a passionate supporter of women, and has jewellery for sale made by the Maasai women of Tanzania at the cellar door. These women have been creating beaded jewellery for centuries, and the skill shows in their exquisite pieces.
The high tea itself was delicious. I have a food allergy, but nothing was too much trouble for the CWA. Those of us with dietary requirements were given perfectly presented individual plates of goodies.
During the afternoon, Paracombe offered their Pinot Noir Chardonnay Sparkling, 2015 Sauvignon Blanc, 2015 Red Ruby Rosé, 2013 Pinot Noir, and the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon to be tasted. Each wine is hand crafted from start to finish, and there's a reason they win awards.
Their Sauvignon Blanc is filled with tropical aromas and clean citrus flavours and is not too floral or overpowering. A beautiful wine to share on such a sunny afternoon.
I finished off the afternoon with a glass of the Pinot Noir, a perfectly gentle and sumptuous end to a wonderful day.
Paracombe's cellar door is open by appointment only. Do yourself a favour and visit their website to find out when you can stop by to try some of their incredible produce and enjoy the spectacular view.
