With winter now well and truly upon us, it's time to embrace its good and its bad. Amongst the bad are leaving the office in the dark, the time taken to dry clothes on the line and, if I'm being honest, having to wear shoes and socks for far more of the day than I'm accustomed to. And the good? The calibre of winter coats available mulled wine and getting away with having toasted sandwiches for dinner three nights in a row on the grounds of it being an accepted winter comfort food. Outings on a grisly winter's night are also extra special. I reckon the food and wine can taste a little better, you like the movie a little bit more, or you stay out for a little longer, because you and your mates have been brave enough to leave the house.

For these reasons, I am excited by the arrival of La Petite Theatre Grand to Garema Place in Civic and its upcoming performances of . Garema Place has been graced by a temporary ice skating rink for several winters now and, this July, La Petite Theatre will be joining it. And it looks spectacular, with Christmas lights, food and drink vans donning the walkway leading up to Garema Place.

is described as a mix of circus, cabaret and comedy, done up close and personal. It's pitched at an adult audience (under 15s must be accompanied by an adult) and described as a little bit cheeky and a little bit risqué. Add in some acrobatics and it's sure to be an entertaining show, with a bit of a twist. Certainly, something fun to brighten up a grim winter's night.

There are six performances of , commencing at 7 pm on 12, 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21 July (Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights). Tickets are $38.50 for adults, $33 for children and concessions. There's plenty of parking in the city and even more food and drink options available. So why not make a night of it or have a go at ice skating after the show?

La Petite Theatre is running several other shows throughout July; its Circus Winter Wonderland and Dr Hubble's Bubble Show are sure to entertain the whole family during the school holiday period. Check out the website for more information.
