Gluttony & Highwire presents 'Papillon' running as part of Adelaide Fringe Festival at Gluttony: The Octagon at 9:40pm for 90 minutes from March 7th until March 19th. Papillon returns for one final year. This show is a creative cocktail of circus, cabaret and comedy all melding into one delicious show.
Papillon is an adult only circus and has strong course language, partial nudity and adult themes. Although its Papillon's fourth year at the Adelaide Fringe, every year is slightly different because they keep working to make the show better. This year's performance kicked off with a chair stacking acrobatic routine featuring hand stands on top of chairs.
A circus show isn't complete without aerial acrobats. Often in circus shows, you see acrobats push their bodies through hula hoops but in this show, they do it from the top of a ladder with two hoops at once.
The highlight of this show was the sweet singer who had her heart broken and wanted to share with the audience her experience with her ex through song. She changed the words from 'Runaround Sue' to 'Drew', she told the audience "Here's my story - it's sad but true, It's about a guy called Drew, he took my love, then ran around, with every single girl in town". This piece was hilarious and received a huge applause from the audience.
The ending of the show was amazing a rendition of 'Creep' accompanied with acrobats doing handstands on three different poles and girl walking on glass. The final act was a crowd pleaser; not only was it a duo juggling act, but it featured a burlesque twist. The MCs Ell Bella and Idris Stanton juggle back and forward taking off items of clothing till they're in their underwear, then attempt to put back on each other's items - this was hilarious to watch.
