Original ceramic art in a suburban studio
Welcome to Paperboat Press
Boutique ceramic studio Paper Boat Press. with its inviting rich, red door, features the original works of Brisbane artist, Kylie Johnson. The gallery is housed in a former Ashgrove former store, built in 1926. As a child, my mother would take me to this little shop (then owned by Mrs Bruce) and buy me a packet of lollies for 10 cents. The wooden floors and bay window have been retained just as I remember. Some 80 years later, the shop was transformed and re-opened as a gallery in 2012.
The quaint 1926 building
Today, Kylie's delicate ceramics are inscribed with inspirational and playful quotes. The heart shaped, heart-felt fridge magnets featuring cheeky messages like "be mine, hot stuff and kiss me" ($12.95) each are a lot of fun.
Ceramics with special messages
As someone who likes writing and words, the charming journals and classic, old school lead pencils are a pleasant surprise. The works at Paper Boat Press are perfect for gifts, an original piece of art for your home or simply some uplifting words to brighten your day.
