Let Papa Gede's free your mind with Absinthe
At Papa Gede's, they serve absinthe the traditional way – with two beautiful glasses, topped with a sugar cube that receives the slow dripping of the glass carafe of the strongest absinthe you are likely to taste in a legally operating establishment. It comes in a variety of types: Pernod $14, La Clandestine $16, Mythe $15, Grande $15, Boston Butterfly $17 or Cousin Jeune for $18. The Boston Butterfly is wonderful. You will be floating like a butterfly in no time.
The bartenders come to your table and take your drinks order (so sophisticated) and will quickly and professionally prepare your cocktail. They are the experts in cocktails and have a wonderful variety of quality drinks on offer. The dangerous thing is since the bar staff come to your table every time you want a fresher, it can be hard to stop. They do offer some food items in case you find yourself a little too loose – they have nice olives and bread.
The décor is wonderfully gothic – with traditional deck tarot cards decorating the bar and dark red walls. The furniture is comfortable provided you can find a seat; it can become very busy especially on weekends. It is a great atmosphere and most people are happy to chat and most dress nicely for the occasion. It helps to make you feel that you are in some secret underground place, away from the worries of the world for the night. If you are in the mood for cocktails you should try the voodoo brew - made with Bourbon, amaretto taverna, salted caramel and espresso. It packs a punch for $17. The signature drink: The Zombie is as they say 'strong enough to wake the dead' with two types of rum, Cointreau, apricot, grapefruit and comes served on fire! It is $19 or if you find the mug super cool, you can have it and the cocktail for $50. Make your own concoctions at home in goth style. Another one not to be missed is The Sherry Springer show a delicious mix of Pedro Ximinez Sherry, Goslings rum, Cointreau, pineapple, lemon and gingerbread syrup for $17.
The zombie cocktail is wonderfully strong and tastes great. It is rare to find strong cocktails with a distinctive taste (not just alcohol itself) but at Papa Gede's Cocktail bar, you will find that they come strong and tasty.
