We will, we will rock you!
Question: What do you get when you mix the greatest rock band songs of all times with a circus?
Answer: PANTS DOWN CIRCUS – ROCK. Hard to imagine but this must see family oriented circus that is just good fun.
The group - Hannah Cryle, Caz Walsh, Joshua Phillips and Idris Stanton - has been working in collaboration with Scott Maidment, the director of stunning Australian circus shows such as Cantina, the Tom Tom Crew and Limbo. I am not surprised that reviews claim that this young troupe has produced their best work yet.
Juggling, Ladder Balancing, the German Wheel, Toss the Girl and Hula Hoops are just some of the acts you'll see during this action packed show. After the show there's merchandise for sale and photo opportunities.
I'm not sure if it was the audience or the performers who were having more fun. Caz is one of the stunning performing artists whose body is like the female version of Gumby. When she did the Roller Boller act there were many loud gasps from the audience. I wanted to pull her aside and ask if her mum had ever told her not to play around with danger. More than once I said 'OMG' out loud. I'm not sure but I don't think many people heard me, who knows, I was too busy concentrating on willing her to defy the laws of physics!
I had prepared interview questions for Caz but after the performance they seemed irrelevant. My first question now had to be 'Are you fearless?' Caz explained that because she had strong bond and 100% trust in her troupe members that she didn't have nerves. She had never been dropped or had an injury during any death defying acts, although Hannah had sprained her ankle once from a non-dangerous jump.
Hannah has always wanted to be in a circus, Caz just wanted to perform and felt her strength was in the use of her body, not her voice so it suits her down to the ground… and up to the highest level of trapeze. She loves it and gets a great sense of achievement that she explained ' You're not going to get from everyday life.'
Having just been introduced to burlesque, the title of this performance created cautious but curious anticipation. I had no idea how this four-person troupe would create their magic mix of rock, circus and the idea of 'a dacking' (Acca dacking that is).
Don't be misled by the title… the pants stay on but there's lots more to satisfy. 'Is this real life, or is this fantasy?' (Queen). I'm not sure but it's just so much fun for all members of the family.
Question: 'Are you ready for a good time?' (AC/DC)
Answer: Of course you are. 'I love rock n roll' like the next person. Then get down to Gasworks and be ready for Pants Down Circus to rock your world.
