After indulging in too much chocolate last weekend you would think that I would avoid such places. Especially when it leads to laps around Albert Park Lake as my reward. Unfortunately, I have the memory of a goldfish and I fell into the same trap this weekend.
While exploring the Melbourne Central Complex, my wife and I stumbled across the Pancake Parlour on the third floor. Eager to find out how many different dishes could be created out of a simple pancake, we shuffled inside.
When the friendly waiter arrived to take our order, I couldn't resist a few select quotes from Austin Powers: Goldmember. I promptly tried to order a "Smoke and a Pancake" and a "Pipe and a Crepe". As I chortled to myself, the confused waiter gave me a look that he most likely reserved for delinquents and half-wits and my wife attempted to slide further away from me. After a firm kick to the shins, I ordered a dish called the Jamaican Banana which consisted of two buttermilk pancakes dribbled with maple flavoured syrup, sprinkled with cinnamon, served with golden fried banana and a choice of cream or ice cream.
The Pancake Parlour is filled with some interesting décor and has a friendly, family vibe to it. Apart from the numerous pancake concoctions which they are famous for they also offer breakfast, lunch and dinner to cover most people's tastes. See you all for a lap around Albert Park soon.
