It's a long time since I entered the doors into a Pancake Parlour. During the 1970s. the Pancake Parlour (which began its life in Adelaide during the 1960s) finally arrived in Melbourne. There were two restaurants, one in Market Lane and the other in the Bourke Street Mall. It was a totally new concept for Melbourne - a place to meet with friends and to enjoy that favourite of favourites - pancakes. Oh, and what pancakes!

Fast forward to 2015, and finally the Pancake Parlour has opened its new restaurant in the Westfield Knox Ozone Precinct (opposite JB Hi-Fi), Entrance 4 from the Burwood Highway. Situated in Knox City, Wantirna South, the new Pancake Parlour brings with it a range of pancakes too superb to even begin to describe.

The day I ventured through their front door, I was amazed at how the Pancake Parlour have taken their "image" to higher levels. A very tasteful fit-out with a welcoming door and then interior, the Pancake Parlour has one wall of subtle mirrors that suggest the restaurant is twice its size. There is a feeling that the environment is conducive to happy times for young people; relaxing times for family get-togethers; party celebrations of one kind or another for anyone and everyone, and in my case on the day I visited with a small group of friends, a section that allows older people to enjoy the ambience without any added noise.

The seating, available in both booths or at tables and chairs, as well as the lighting is subdued but very effective and comfortable. The booths have black leather-look seats and studded backing, while the chairs at the tables are mainly Bentwood-like chairs.

There are subtle copper highlights throughout the restaurant, along the walls, and especially in the beautiful copper balls floating from the ceiling.

The menu at Pancake Parlour speaks for itself. The descriptions of all items on the menu tempt the taste buds; whether savoury or sweet, or as desired. There is Drink menu "From the Bar".

The outside eating area is protected from the road, and has heating elements that take the chill from the air. This area is also fitted with comfortable booths.

I have to mention the toilets because they are easily identifiable with colourful doors and logos, and on the day of my visit were very bright, clean and tidy.

For those people who aren't quite sure what a pancake is, the definition in the dictionary is as follows: "A thin, flat cake of batter, fried on both sides in a pan and typically rolled up with a sweet or savoury filling." It seems Australians prefer to have their pancakes flat. Especially when it comes to stacks, and that's another subject to talk about.

The Pancake Parlour is located at Kox City Ozone (Opposite JB Hi-Fi), in Entrance 4 from Burwood Highway, Wantirna South.
