The locals are certainly going to miss both Steve and his store, Palm Video, and appreciate the opportunity to purchase the last of his incredible collection of stock.

We loved the winter specials for the locals, the low priced internet access where the children were very welcomed, the old movies lurking in the high shelving tempting us to take the '3 for $10' deal and spend the weekend indoors.

We did, however, get sidetracked by the shiny new dispenser in the supermarket, the offers by online DVD providers, the mail back ease of quick online choice all stacked up ready to roll when our next disc was returned. What happened? Well a very clever local lad produced an amazing YouTube video featuring Steve's shop which takes an in depth look at what happened to DVD shops and their potential future, or lack of.

I went to check it out this sale today and there was a huge amount of PS2 gear and discs along with movies I hadn't seen for many years amongst the recent ones. I noted there was still a lot of stock but the owner has had many collectors coming in and making quite large purchases so I'd head to Rye soon if you are looking to increase your own collection. It's not far from the Peninsula Hot Springs so I'd be heading to this sale then going for a relaxing winter dip in thermal warm waters.

A would like to extend a huge thank you to the owner and operator of Palm Video for being such a wonderful part of our community and being so welcoming of all ages to his stores. We wish him well in future years.
