This year, with COVID-19 preventing us from celebrating #PalmSunday together in person, there are other ways to join in the celebration in 2020. Palm Sunday is one of the most important days in the Christian calendar after Christmas and Easter. Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter and marks the beginning of Holy Week, the week of events leading up to Jesus' death and resurrection.
Decorate Your Home - A great new innovative initiative is for churches, families, and individuals to decorate their houses with palm fronds and post on social media to keep up the Palm Sunday spirit. If you want to be part of this movement, put your fronds out, take a picture, and share it on social media with the tags
#ozpalmsunday #palmsundayunity2020
Social Justice on Palm Sunday - In Australia on Palm Sunday, every year thousands of people take to the streets to call for a more compassionate response to refugees. In 2020, people across the country will urgently raise their voices so that refugees and asylum seekers will not be forgotten in our fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Palm Sunday Rally Online - This Sunday, instead of gathering for rallies and marches in major cities, people are finding new and creative ways to raise their voices together. Many of the organised Palm Sunday rallies are going ahead as online events and advocacy will take place across social media. You can attend an online event or take a photo of yourself with a sign such as REFUGEES ARE WELCOME HERE and/or #JUSTICE FOR REFUGEES and send it to
[email protected] and or post to social media with the
#justice4refugees
