Mention the Gold Coast and images of one of the world's best locations for the sun, sand and the sea immediately fills the mind. Add a splash of Italian label Versace's high fashion, glamour and sexiness to the mix and you have the world's first haute hotel, Palazzo Versace on the Gold Coast.
The centre of fashion-meets-hotel attention, Palazzo Versace is everything Donatella Versace designed it to be – Sexy and sleek with touches of the brand's signature medusa motif and neo-classic prints. She combined her passion for fashion and home styles, classic and contemporary inspirations and influences of the brand heritage to create a landmark hotel that allows guest to experience the Versace lifestyle.

I remember the birth of plans for this designer hotel in 1997 when visionary property developer Soheil Abedian, Chairman of Sunland Group pictured a Versace-branded hotel as the future of luxury accommodations. The iconic Palazzo Versace was opened in September 2000, marking it as the world's first 5-star fashion-house-branded hotel with 200 rooms, its own private marina and 3 restaurants. Sunland owns and operates the hotel, while Versace directs the design including a special line of Palazzo Versace branded products and licenses the use of the brand name till 2020.
Over the years, the hotel has hosted an admirable list of international celebrities including Beyonce, Jay-Z, U2, Paris Hilton, Rod Stewart, Jennifer Lopez, Mick Jagger and Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the late Prime Minister and ruler of Dubai. The 12 year old hotel underwent a multi-million dollar makeover in the past 18 months and re-emerged with more sexiness, more bling and more fun.
Palazzo Versace on the Gold Coast is dressed to impressed, making your visit and stay unique and unavailable from any other hotel brand in the world. This one-of-a-kind landmark property is everything you would imagine the Versace brand to be and expect to deliver in terms of overall sensory experience. The beacon-like signature medusa motif heralds your arrival as the concierge moves efficiently to organise luggage and open the doors to your luxe Versace lifestyle.
A step into the lobby and you are transported into Donatella's opulent neo-classical fashion masterpiece of glass, marble and stone - vaulted ceilings, imported Italian Roman marble columns, former Milan State Library chandelier, mosaic creations, Carrara marble floors, plump lounges and selection of Gianni Versace's own designs and artwork gracing the walls.
The air is lightly infused with the signature Versace secent from oil burners and the attentive service from check-in to room, restaurants and public spaces enhances your feeling of being a privileged guest. It is the perfect setting for dressing up, getting your hair done, putting on the heels and just feeling glamourous and super sexy.

The Versace lifestyle experience extends to its signature Water Salon and poolside lounging culture. The highlight is a heated saltwater lagoon with its own white sandy beach, where you can laze protected by Palazzo Versace's sunscreen on Medusa-loungers or lounge in the private cabana and sip champagne. Since its opening in 2000, the hotel has received more than 60 awards including 'Best Australian Hotel', 'Australia's leading spa resort', and a string of outstanding service awards from prominent publications and organisations worldwide.
Located opposite the Sheraton Mirage at Main Beach, Palazzo Versace enjoys the best uninterrupted views of the Boardwater on the Southport Spit. It is one of my favourite places to stay and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Marina, take a romantic stroll along the boardwalk or hire a yacht from the 90 berth private marina for a sunset cruise. It an absolute gem when you're searching for memorable moments that combine 5-star designer luxury with a large delicious scoop of Gold Coast's sun, sand and sea.
Palazzo Versace on the Gold Coast features 205 spacious guest rooms with private spa and 72 apartments all meticulously crafted by Donatella to include the Versace design stamp on the floor to ceiling windows, Juliet balconies, rich parquetry floors, baroque furnishing and luxurious embroidered fabrics. The larger private apartments come with plunge pools overlooking the ocean, kitchens and expanded entertaining areas. The Versace lifestyle experience extends to every item in the room, which is created either for the hotel as part of the Palazzo Versace collection or from Versace's home collection. They include pillows, bed sheets, bathrobes, bathroom amenities, clothes hangers, pencils, glassware in the private bar and the complimentary bottles of men's and women's perfumes.

Versace is one of the few designer brands that produces furniture, linens, glassware and cutlery and you can expect the Versace lifestyle to continue seamlessly into the dining establishments including Il Barocco, Vanitas, Vie Bar and Restaurant and Le Jardin Lobby Bar, with each featuring a different Versace China setting.
Il Barocco offers casual all-day dining and serves an excellent brekkie and seafood buffet. Vie provides modern European-influenced cuisine in a contemporary indoor and alfresco space overlooking the hotel's private marina. Vanitas is the signature fine dining venue with a la carte and degustation options and romantic night views of the lagoon. Le Jardin Lobby Bar in the main area of the Palazzo Versace looking out over the pool is an excellent space for a relaxing coffee and afternoon tea in plush Versace sofas.
