There is one big reason why Palate in Prahran is fast becoming my favourite brunch spot. It's not the uber-trendy location on Greville St. Nor is it the relaxed vibe, comfy lounge chairs and friendly service.
Quite simply, it's the food that keeps bringing me back.
I found Palate on the internet after searching for paleo-inspired restaurants or cafes in my local area. I don't follow a strict paleo diet - but I do enjoy fresh, wholesome and tasty food.
My first time at Palate, I ordered the Bread Free Brekkie Burger and (I must admit), was a little sceptical about how good a "bread-free" burger really could be. And whether it would be substantial enough for my ravenous stomach that had just endured a 20 kilometre run. Well I loved it. And was sufficiently full for the rest of the afternoon.
I finished with a freshly-brewed chai tea and found myself sitting for hours with my laptop, occasionally raising my head to check out other peoples food choices. Yes I seem to have developed a healthy obsession with food since arriving in Melbourne less than two months ago!
I've been back to Palate a few times since, trying the Corn Kale Fritters on one occasion and my old favourite (the Bread Free Brekkie Burger) on another occasion. I'm certainly a creature of habit and the "burger" was no less impressive the second time around.
There is also the option to create your own paleo breakfast or lunch with plenty of delicious choices ranging from avocado smash with lime & mint to roasted pumpkin with paprika. The modern Australian menu still caters for the non-paleo's out there with a range of toasted Turkish breads, pasta and burgers.
If you are looking for a local brunch or lunch spot with a relaxed feel, friendly and attentive service and a great choice of fresh and wholesome food, I highly recommend Palate. It has certainly won me over!
