Pam O'Grady has devised a Musical Hall Extravaganza as her fourth Musical Hall show for the Adelaide Repertory Theatre's last production for 2017.

The Arts Theatre stage will be transformed into early-1900s to present an evening of high drama and musical interludes (at enormous expense to the management). A cavalcade of highly distinguished actors and artistes will excite your emotions and delight your senses. Other delights will include extravagant chorus numbers and of course, the ever-popular community sing-a-longs, with the brilliant pianoforte artist Sandi McMenamin who will dazzle you with her dextrous tickling of the ivories, accompanied by her orchestra, which is always a favourite with audiences. There will also be more solo artistes with exceptional talent and outstanding performances.

The celebrated Mistress of Ceremonies, Miss Penni Hamilton Smith will guide the audience through an evening of song, soaring feats of virtuoso singing, heart-rendering drama, death-defying acts of bravery and scorching unbridled passion.

The show will be a combination of old favourites audiences have requested - The World Famous Balloon Dance by the Ballerinas from the Ballett Re-use, and the emotionally draining confession The Hole in the Elephant's Bottom.

There will be extraordinary practitioners of the fine arts such as The Great Burke and his amazing assistant Miss Tree who will present an exceptionally skillful performance of mind reading rarely seen before in such sophisticated times

The Great Burke will then terrify and titillate your senses as he performs at great risk the dangerously, unbelievable death-defying feat...for the first time with his newest assistant, Miss Take as he demonstrates Sawing the Lady in Half ... hopefully for more than one performance. Some audience members will realise the excellent value here, with the possibility of getting two for the price of one! (A nurse with smelling salts will be in attendance if required.)

At great expense the services of the well-loved, respected and greatly admired ballerinas from the Ballet Reuse for their one and only appearance on their Australian wide tour. For their farewell performance, they will present their World Famous Balloon Dance. What a privilege for Adelaide audiences this will be.

Be prepared for the tantalizing Melodramatic offering Virtue Always Triumphs of Life in the Wicked City by Walter Boughton.

Charity, a lost and troubled heroine, and our valiant hero, Dick, a simple but undeniably courageous farm boy, will lead us along the path of true love. Naturally, there will be trouble at every turn, with devious, unscrupulous and basically murderous deviants anxiously pursuing the innocent Charity. But never fear our valiant hero will come to her rescue. You must prepare yourself for an exhausting, emotion-charged evening's entertainment of light-hearted nonsense and ridiculous fun.
