On Tuesday night I attended 's first ever class in Brisbane. This brilliant little company has been operating in Melbourne for some time now and it is about time they bought themselves to Brisbane so Brissy-based fun-seekers could have a turn creating their own artistic masterpieces.

The event took place in Brisbane's CBD at the Stock Exchange Hotel making 's art classes perfect for an after-work catch up with friends. Simply arrive a little early, grab yourself some food (and possibly a drink) before donning a spiffy red apron and starting your masterpiece. Tuesday's event was packed with men and women, some with partners, some by themselves, and some in groups, many of who were city workers enjoying a themselves after a day of hard work. I went by myself but the lovely social feeling in the air ensured that I was able to quickly make friends with the lady beside me, and we happily chatted until our host for the evening, Tony grabbed our attention.

Tony is one of 's capable artists and it was his job to guide us through the painting of a gorgeous Australian Cockatoo. He had a wonderful assistant as well who, whilst Tony gave instructions from the front of the room, wandered between the easels and aprons offering one-on-one advice to the 30 plus artists.

Tony taught us how to paint the majestic bird with very clear and simple step-by-step instructions. He broke down every element and always gave us enough time to complete the step before moving on. In fact, I never felt like I was rushed and I also never felt like I was bored, waiting for the next step. I guess the wonderful company owners must look for impeccable timing, as well as wicked painting skills, in their employees because Tony sure had it.

What I love the most about 's class is that there was no pressure to be the next Van Gough or Picasso. In fact, you are actually encouraged to follow your own path, even if that means that instead of a cockatoo you end up with a pterodactyl or some windmills (both real examples.) This is why I am more than happy to walk away with my warm coloured bird as opposed to Tony's lovely multi-coloured creation.

Now I've just got to find the wall space to hang him.
