Eradicate some dust and create a piece of art
Pablo Picasso once said, "Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life." Lately, there seems to have been more "dust" than usual, wouldn't you agree?
I recently attended a Paint and Sip evening at Rose Soiree, an art studio in Bulimba, only 4 kilometres out of Brisbane City, in an attempt to release my inner artist and eradicate some of that dust.
When you attend one of the three-hour painting sessions, you have a professional artist to gently guide you through the process of creating your masterpiece, from mixing the different coloured paints to getting the paint onto canvas.
It is not at all like those rigid art classes that scared the daylights out of me at high school all those years ago, but rather a fun and relaxed setting with music in the background and the option to BYO beverage and nibbles. I may well have passed art classes back in the day had I been encouraged to sing along and drink wine whilst creating a masterpiece.
When you arrive at your session, you are handed an apron (to protect your clothing), and all the materials required to complete your artwork: canvas, paints and brushes.
There is a bar fridge to chill beverages and a good supply of glasses, though please note, that there are no utensils for serving and plating food. Bustling Bulimba has an array of eateries and retail outlets where you can easily pick up supplies - one couple arrived with a pizza to share.
The artwork we painted was Santorini Sunset and although all participants followed the same guidelines, all finished products were different - all individual. That is the beauty of art.
Would I attend another Paint and Sip session at Rose Soiree? Most definitely. This is a fun social activity that can be enjoyed with friends or as a group function such as a birthday or hens party. Rose Soiree are also available for private functions.
You know, despite being a couple of hours of fun, it also feels good to walk away with a finished project. I now know what my daughters are getting for Christmas!
Rose Soiree is located at 1/90 Oxford Street, Bulimba, opposite the Bulimba Memorial Park. Parking along Godwin Street is within easy walking distance, and you can also travel to Bulimba by ferry or bus (from Adelaide Street). You certainly can't miss the venue when it is lit up at night!
