In celebration of the whales that migrate to our coastlines annually - Paddle Out for Whales launches the Whale season at
Hervey Bay . It is the largest anti-whaling demonstration, where people paddle out into the ocean on all types of flotation devices and create a circle to hold a minute silence to celebrate the whales and raise conservation awareness to protect these majestic marine mammals.
2014 is a grand celebration of the International Court of Justice's historic decision on Japan's so-called "scientific" whaling programme in the Antarctic. On March 31 2014, the Court ordered that Japan revoke all of its existing permits to kill whales under its JARPA II scientific whaling programme and refrain from issuing any further permits. It's the first time in 100 years that whales will not be hunted in the Southern Ocean.
