Pad Thai-Lao's $5 Meals

There have been a few high profile Thai-Lao restaurant openings out west recently with the highly acclaimed Green Peppercorn at the Fairfield Hotel perhaps the most lorded.

Opening well and truly under the radar recently was the Pad Thai-Lao. Concealed within the Cabramatta Bowling Club, it's one of those hidden gems that one stumbles on from time to time.

Situated opposite the more established Mekong kitchen within the club, it looks more like a café than restaurant. But what got my attention was the large menu banners with huge photos of the dishes and that price; $5.00. There are other dishes that are $10.00, but I'm sorry, I just can't go past the $5.00 bargains.

The $5.00 options include most of your Thai-Lao favourites such as Paw Paw Salad, BBQ Pork, Ox Tongue, Larb Dib, Fish Cakes and Chicken Feet salad.

The $10.00 options include Calamari Salad and the huge Tom Yum Kung and Yum Kung Salad

The service is snappy with plenty of smiles and the dishes we sample are pretty tasty and look terrific. The $10.00 Calamari Salad was enormous while the $5.00 Nam Took with its finely sliced beef would have been enough in itself, with the $3.00 plain or sticky rice option which you could share.

The other great convenience here is the ample no hassle parking. You don't need to be a member of the club if you live outside the five kilometre limit.

I would not recommend dining here on a Tuesday, Friday or Sunday nights due to loud and annoying raffle or bingo draws.
