Last year I attended the
Pacific Runway Fashion Show at
Carriage Works . The passion, colour and vibrancy of the fashion displayed on the runway is still with me a year later. It was a sold-out show, an incredible experience full of stunning high fashion with the unique perspective of the Pacific Islands.
Fashion industry and media from the Pacific, New Zealand and Australia attended and were impressed by the Pacific designers and their fashion-forward take on traditionally influenced current trends.
This year, the Pacific Runway is back, the most prestigious platform for Pacific Island origin designers, and now a part of the official program for 2017 at Carriageworks, home of
Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia .
The organiser/founder of Pacific Runway, Jannike Seiuli says that the success of last year's show proves that Australian fashion lovers are ready to wear Pacific origin fashion labels. Mrs Seiuli also said, "
being acknowledged and hosted by Carriageworks reinforces that our Pacific talent is being recognised in the world."
The multi-cultural models at Pacific Runway 2016 were a highlight of the show, especially the famous ones. Pita Taufatofua, the Tongan Olympics team flag bearer who rose to public attention when his oiled torso made headline news, walked the runway for a number of designers, much to the delight of female fashion fans.
"
It's about showing a different side to the Pacific, using a high profile to draw attention to what Pacific people are capable of doing." Taufatofua said. "
Pacific designers have world class skills and creativity and Pacific Runway gives them an opportunity to show this."
In 2017, 20 top designers from around the Pacific (Fiji, Cook Islands, PNG, Samoa, Tahiti, Tonga), NZ, USA and Australia will present their URBAN RESORT 18 collections at Carriageworks on October 27th.
Owing to the success of 2016, sponsors have jumped at the chance to be associated, one of Australia's top cosmetic companies,
Harlotte Cosmetics .
The 2017 Pacific Runway Ambassadors are
Mariah Bellaluisa Alone and
Margret Lani Gutugutuwai Toga.
The lead make-up artist is YouTube and Instagram star
Make-Up by Jah.
The event will again be attended by the crème de la crème of the Pacific fashion industries, fashion connoisseurs as well as high-profile global fashion industry influencers and insiders.
Make sure to get your
tickets now, because The Pacific Runway is sure to be a sellout show again. This is one event you do not want to miss.
