As night falls over the city each Saturday, the Ivy in its heart, is transformed into a super-club entitled Pacha . I have to say that this is my all time favourite of nightlife experiences that Sydney has to offer. Pacha goes way beyond a standard nightclub, creating theatrical, more interactive, and more immersive dimensions. From my first experience of Pacha earlier this year, my more recent visit, and all visits in between, I find it safe to say that each weekend, you are guaranteed to enjoy not only one fabulous night out in the city, but also some breathtaking spectacles.

Pacha itself is a nightclub franchise, separate to Ivy. It originated in Spain, with its headquarters (and one of the top nightspots in the world) being in Ibiza, and a slow but successful spread around the globe. The concept has been described as a fusion of circus and clubbing - I think the way that these two industries have been made to meet has been done so in a carefully-crafted and impeccable way. The conventional type of club - dark room, loud music, and great DJ's - is really expanded so that it becomes a rather unusual and more vibrant multi-sensory experience.

Ivy, with its integration of indoor and outdoor set-up, seems to me like the perfect choice of venue in Sydney to play host to this weekly phenomenon. On a side note here, one thing I love about the Ivy is how you are able to see the night sky as well as some city buildings towering over you - during Pacha, I find this really reminds me that in a way, I have been transported to a whole other world for some hours.

The Merivale CEO Justin Hemmes, creative director Ignatius Jones, and the large cast of the phenomenon put in many hours of work each week to ensure that, come Saturday, guests will be treated to an incredible experience from the moment they step foot through the Pacha portal. Dancers and acrobats spend hours rehearsing the special performances you will see on the night, and designers think carefully about the costumes and props to be present - often which create a certain theme, such as Greek mythology.

So what can you expect? Think loud, as the Ivy's incredible sound-system sends cool beats and tracks from some of the best DJ's around pulsating through the entire complex. Often included in the line-up are some pretty big names in the DJ and music industry - this year, artists such as The Far East Movement and Zedd have played at Pacha.

Also when thinking about what to expect from Pacha, you should think visual. By this I mean creative, colourful, and quite out-of-the-ordinary shows. The visual shows are theatrical. They involve a lot of burlesque-inspired dance, and acrobatic displays. The crew of talented and sexy dancers, aerialists, acrobats and designers all bring these shows to life in innovative ways.

Not only will you be captured by these performances, but you will also be immersed in an array of phenomenal technological effects - these go way beyond the light and smoke shows experienced in most clubs. I can see that the directors have a liking for dropping bucket-loads of confetti onto the crowd of people dancing the night away. They also like to play with fire overhead from which you can feel the heat; as well as ice, as cold misty air is blown across the dance-floor. You will often find yourself caught between where to look, as there will be a lot of entertainment of different forms happening all around the arena.

These photos don't really do justice to Pacha in my opinion. I highly recommend that, when you get the chance, you should have a night out to Pacha and enjoy a surreal experience in what I consider the best, and most creative place that Sydney's nightlife has to offer.

Note that prices are higher than the average for clubs, but I feel that it is worth it as the experience is more unique, more quality, and a lot more has been put into the creation of each event. I recommend that you purchase tickets online, in advance, as there tend to be more discounted offers than those on sale closer to the date of your chosen Saturday, or those being sold at the door for that matter. There is sometimes a $25 or so ticket deal online, however these often require you to enter the venue before 10pm - be sure to keep these things in mind.
