OzHarvest Food Trucks Deliver Produce to Charitable Organisations in Adelaide
OzHarvest is a charitable organisation in Adelaide that was founded in 2004 to rescue quality surplus food from commercial outlets including supermarkets, restaurants, farmers, hotels and other food venues.
Rather than wasting the food by sending it to landfill OzHarvest food trucks deliver it to charities supporting needy people in Adelaide and elsewhere around Australia. Each week 56 tonnes of perishable usable food finds its way onto someone's table rather than going to waste. Food collected ranges from quality surplus fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh meat, pre-prepared sandwiches and meals to cupcakes or muffins that weren't sold that day.
This Christmas the Adelaide Central Market is helping to support the good work of OzHarvest, hosting the Tree of Goodness stall from Thursday December 18 to Wednesday December 24. The OzHarvest Tree Of Goodness market stall is located next to SAMTASS at the Gouger Street end of the Central Market, and is decorated a bright festive yellow colour.
At the Tree Of Goodness you can donate to OzHarvest, or purchase one of a variety of things to help this worthwhile charitable organisation. Items available for purchase include the newly released OzHarvest cookbook Urban Harvest featuring recipes from 50 top Australian chefs, OzHarvest tea towels, shopping bags, aprons, key rings and tempting gingerbread cookies in the shape of little OzHarvest food trucks.

For every item purchased or donation made, a decoration will be added to the Tree of Goodness, highlighting the number of meals contributed.
Many owners of market stalls in the Central Market already donate their surplus produce, and have done so for years. Regular OzHarvest donor Marco Marinelli, The Mushroom Man said that "There is such a strong connection between stallholders of the Adelaide Central Market and OzHarvest right throughout the trading year. It's great to be able to help connect the community with OzHarvest in support of what they do."
When you next pop into the Central Market in Adelaide to stock up for Christmas, look out for the yellow OzHarvest Tree Of Goodness at the southern end of the market stalls. Try some of their food trucks while you're at it.
OzHarvest is a charitable organisation that relies completely on donations. You can also help by donating funds to OzHarvest or donating your time.
