OzHarvest is a non-profit organization that has been providing disadvantaged Australian families with meals, through charities, since it has been launched in 2004.

Whilst providing food to the needy, OzHarvest enables charities and organisations to spend their funds on more important programs such as after school care services for the vulnerable youths.

On May 20, OzHarvest is organizing an event called 'Shout Lunch, Fight Hunger'. It invites employers and employees to donate money they usually spend for their lunch. Bags, with printed information on where the money will go, will be distributed to employers to collect the money. To register for the event, dial 029516 3877 or click here.

Another popular way to raise funds for OzHarvest is to encourage employees to bring each a dish and share during lunch. It is the perfect excuse for a get together among colleagues and for a good cause. Collect money per meal and donate. For every $1 collected, a meal is delivered to someone who may not have eaten healthy foods for days.

Licensed food providers are also encouraged to donate excess and left over foods that would normally go to bin or unsellable products. Leftovers from professionally catered events are also accepted for donation. Please ring 9516 3877 for food collection.

If you wish to help in other ways, you can still donate online or set up your own fundraising page here.

Volunteers are doing great jobs at OzHarvest and if you wish to lend a helping hand, contact the organisation here.

According to Ken, a homeless, "OzHarvest does not only feed people with fresh and nutritious food, but also provides drop-in centers across Sydney."
