Hold on to your lightsabers as Oz Comic-Con returns to Melbourne in what is set to be another explosive convention celebrating cosplay, gaming, comic collecting, Sci-fi movies, cult TV shows and more, held at the Royal Exhibition Hall in Carlton on 5-6 July 2014.
As first time Oz Comic-Con attendees last year, we arrived at 9am as doors to the exhibition opened, expecting to be one of the first, only to find an existing queue of hundreds; eager fans waiting patiently in line.
For many, this is a chance to express their alter ego through fictional character, an excuse for a weekend dress-up, not just reserved for kids. A lot of effort, creativity and time goes into desired outfits for the event, with many fans making their own costumes from scratch.
Once inside the hall, there are booths selling all sorts of comic related paraphernalia, from posters to Lego, video games to signed pictures, Sci-fi art, books to miniature characters and rare comics, leaving a hole in the pocket, but smile on the face of many.
For die hard fans, celebrity autograph signings and photograph opportunities are the reasons to go (photograph and autograph tokens at extra cost). Get in quick though, as last year, an opportunity for a photograph with William Shatner sold out within the first few hours. For this year's guest line up check Oz Comic-Con's Facebook page or website for updates.
If you think Comic-Con is a nerd fest for grown-ups, think again. Your children will love the opportunity to see some of their favourite superhero characters in dress-up, and Sci-fi movies come to life in front of their eyes at Oz Comic-Con.
It is believed that 33,000 people walked through the doors of Melbourne's Oz Comic-Coz last year, if you would like to be one of the thousands to attend this year, book quick before tickets sell out though Oz Comic-Con's website.
