Looks Like This Kid Woke Up Feeling a Little Thor.
Locals are being invited to unleash their inner geek at Oz Comic Con in Brisbane this September. Tickets are on sale now for the annual event that sees pop culture fans converge on the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. It's a popular celebration of all things great in the cult TV and movie, comics, and gaming world. So what can you expect at this year's Oz Comic Con Brisbane?
Whether you're an avid observer or you're dressing up too, the amazing cosplay is definitely a highlight of the event. Cosplay is literally a portmanteau of 'Costume' and 'role-play'. It doesn't matter if your costume is identical to the one your favourite character wears or it's cobbled together with duct tape, toilet rolls and tea towels, it's just fun to get into the spirit and dress up. Most people choose to dress as characters from games, movies, anime, and comics, but you're just as welcome in your everyday, NPC (non-player character) clothes. Just bear in mind that there are some safety-based rules about props. You should have a good read if you're thinking of cosplaying this year. You'll find them here.

Anime and manga fans are invited to sit down and stay a while in the special Anime-Station. It's an entire section of the Con dedicated especially to them! The exclusive screening room will have new and classic titles from Japan. Fans will be able to listen to soundtracks in the original Japanese with subtitles, or when available as an English dubbed version. The manga library is going to feature a huge selection of titles for guests to read and enjoy. There'll also be anime gaming in the Japanese gaming area featuring recent releases and classic favourites.
Anime's an animated cartoon style which originated in Japan. It's usually got those characters with big eyes and amazing often colourful hairstyles. Often there are pretty epic battles and explosions (but not always). In the same way South Park is aimed at a different age group than Peppa Pig, Anime is created for a variety of different age groups. You may have seen some without realising. Dragon Ball Z, Astro Boy, Pokemon, and Cowboy Bebop are some of the most well-known by Australian audiences. Manga is the style of Japanese comic books. Some popular manga have been made into anime. Again, manga is created for a variety of tastes and across many genres.

One of the biggest drawcards for Oz Comic Con of course is the line-up of famous faces. Fans can attend photo ops or talks with some of their all-time favourites from TV and movies, the world of comics and publishing, and even special cosplay guests.
