I enjoyed my first visit to
Oz Comic-Con , the pop-culture expo which celebrates all things to do with TV shows, movies, comic books, graphic novels, anime and gaming.
There were plenty of opportunities to purchase fan memorabilia. There were replica swords, military outfits, cartoons, books, jewellery, fabric, iron-on patches, games and t-shirts.
My hands down favourite part of attending was the people watching. Oz Comic-Con holds a competition for the best cosplay outfit, but you don't need to enter to dress up. There are ample opportunities to take photos and selfies, although some of the them require a donation to a charity. My partner took my photo in front of Dr Who's Tardis, Star Wars characters with authentic backgrounds, an enchanted forest, and an Empire magazine cover.
You can purchase tickets to meet one of the many celebrity guests and get their autograph. I'm going to admit I didn't recognise all of the names, but I'm sure the die-hard fans won't have the same problem.
Oz Comic-Con caters for all different tastes and I found the atmosphere accepting and friendly. The stalls were generously spread out at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and I didn't find the space overcrowded like I do when I sometimes go there.
There is plenty to keep you entertained for several hours, if you listen to the presentations, watch a movie, have a go in the gaming areas or just recharge in the chill out zone.
Oz Comic-Con is a fun expo where you can indulge your inner child's love of pop culture. The event is held in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane each year. Head to
Oz Comic-Con's website to see when their next event is.
