Many, many years ago two Devonshire farmers, William Colton and Charles Hewett, landed in Adelaide. In search of fertile land and fresh water supply to establish their homes, they trekked the southern vales and chose a piece of land; Colton named his "Lower Oxenberry Farm" while Hewett named his "Oxenberry Farm".

One hundred and twenty one years later, the famous Scarpantoni brothers were born and raised at Oxenberry. Throughout the years the land was divided and sold. The Scarpantoni's bought a section of it and developed the land to what today is, one of McLaren Vale's most iconic wineries and a long time favourite for families, tourists and locals alike.

Oxen berry's Cellar Door is full of character with lovely warm tones and modern touches, an open fire surrounded by couches makes the perfect spot to sample some of their wine creations.

This winery also has a café with hearty food, great coffee, gelati and classic desserts, perfect for a pit stop when you are touring the southern wine region.

Oxenberry Farm is only located a few minutes from McLaren Vale's main road and about 40 minutes from Adelaide, which makes it an excellent option for a weekend away. Pedler Cottage Bed & Breakfast is a restored 1940's fully furnished cedar cottage, located just a few steps from Oxenberry's Cellar door. The cottage offers beautiful views of the nearby wetlands and vineyards, not to mention seriously great wine meters away from your front door! Click here for Pedler Cottage photos .

So whatever your reason for being in this southern wine region, visit Oxenberry farm. See for yourself why Hewett and Colton fell in love with this land, taste its produce and enjoy 175 years of history in every drop of wine.
