Working across the street from Ovo Cafe in Darlinghurst provides a delicious temptation.

I studied abroad in Brazil during Uni and developed saudade (a longing) for incredible Brazilian food.

If you think all Brazilian food is barbecue (churrasco) you'd be wrong. There are many delicious starters, side dishes, mains and desserts that are down right mouth watering.

Take their cheese bread (pao de queijo). It is gluten free which is music to my gluten intolerant ears and you won't find a bread more delectable than this one. Made with tapioca flour it should be something on everyone's list to try.

Another awesome starter to try is coxinha, shredded chicken fried in batter. My dining partner had this one, as it's not gluten free. But in my Uni days snacked on many of these and I can tell you they are divine.

One of my favorites to order is the 'Plate of the Day' (prato feito). With this order, you can choose either chicken, beef or fish and black beans, rice and salad. The black beans at Ovo Cafe are cooked just right the way they should be and this is a nice hearty lunch.

If you are in the mood for a lighter lunch they have an array of salads, quiches and a full juice bar to choose from.

And dessert, oh lovely dessert. I often have the Bombocado which is a gluten free oconut muffin made with tapioca flour. It is such a wonderful treat. Ovo Cafe is also famous for it's Brazilian style carrot cake that my dining companion told me is was awesome. You can't go wrong trying one of Ovo Cafe's dessert or their awesome coffees. There is often a line out the door just to get a coffee.

I've also found the staff to be incredibly friendly, helpful and fast. I also really enjoy going here for dinner because incredibly Ovo Cafe is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is very reasonably priced as well

I spoke with the owners, Warrick and Ralphy about how Ovo Cafe began. They said the idea for a Brazilian cafe evolved very naturally for them. Ovo Cafe started out as a regular cafe with a Brazilian twist. However, when they discovered how much people were enjoying the Brazilian dishes (especially the Brazilian community) they expanded into Brazilian mains and cakes.

A favorite part of Ralphy's job is being able to share his passion for Brazilian culture and food, and being a strong part of the Brazilian community. Many Brazilians say they go to Cafe Ovo to 'para matar a saudade' which literally means to kill the sense of missing home.

If you know Brazilian food you are going to feel right at home, and if you haven't tried their many regional delights, what are you waiting for?
Aproveite. Enjoy.
