A Mel Brooks style mixed British situation comedy, with an added dash of black.

After his wife's recent passing, Gerald decides he doesn't want to make a fuss, and yearns to spend the rest of his life in peace and quiet. Unfortunately for Gerald, not everyone agrees. Soon Gerald realises that even from beyond the grave, his wife's "forward planning" still remains as strong as ever. It's soon revealed that before her passing, Gerald's wife made her sister Amanda and their housekeeper Carol promise to stay, and help him for the rest of his life. TTo top it all off, his old friend Isobel pops in for a surprise visit, with whom he shares a secret from their past. After countless fiascos plus sad and happy memories from the past, Gerald decides to band together with his daughter Shirley, and brother in law Mark. Together Gerald, Shirley and Mark create a plan in order to rid of the three women from staying, and leaving Gerald to maintain his own independence.

As well as featuring an outstanding performance from the entire cast, the incredible work from director Peter Kirkwood (director of Minefields and Miniskirts ), the technical crew and everyone else involved, is certainly something worth writing home about. In a similar vein to Death At A Funeral, Father and Son, and Keeping Up Appearances; Over My Dead Body is a glorious romp that aims to please and achieves it swimmingly. Out of all the highly impressive aspects featured in this production, the most notable would have to be the writing. The screenplay consists largely of intelligent satire focused on relationships, and the significant contrast between American and British humour.

If you're looking to escape for a couple of hours, and fancy your cup of tea black with no sugar, Harbour Theatre's production of Over My Dead Body is certainly not one to miss out on.

8.5/10
