Head to The Butterfly Club and see starring Jamie Boiskin at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival on now until Sunday 7 April.

Yes this is a cabaret about 'the curse', the monthly visit from Aunt Flo, the dreaded 'crimson tide', 'code red' and 'shark week' - but this show is not just about 'Lady Business' it's about how guys can become 'menstrual activists'.

Watch the preview here

After Jamie Boiskin experienced a 35 day period, she sought advice from three gynaecologists, about her condition. Receiving a diagnosis of endometriosis ('endo') still did not explain why her period is so hardcore, why sex is painful and how she will endure this for the next 30 or more years of her life. Jamie like many other women are left to walk through the desert with no answers, no cure, and to their own devices to cope. What is a woman to do?

Write a cabaret – and a damn good one at that. Accompanied on piano by her protégé menstrual activist Thomas Bradford, Jamie takes us back to the beginning where 'bleeding' all began. Backed up by a hip-hopping and twerking cyst filled uterus and mega tampon (Alice Albon and Louise Cumming) Ovariacting is no bloody joke.

Watch an interview with Dolly Diamond and Jamie Boiskin

Together they explore the experience of polycystic fibrosis, endo, toxic shock syndrome, with a live simulation of a period on stage. No subject is off limits – it's about bringing out the secrets and talking about the monthly curse in the open. Expect strawberry jam, red paint and nerf guns, audience participation and lots of hysteria.

Ovariacting also supports a great cause Share the Dignity campaign supporting women who are homeless and cannot afford to purchase tampons and sanitary pads.

Ovariacting is well written (Fiona Scott-Norman) and executed by the cast, with clever costuming, a clear story line and hook. It's authentic, educational and very entertaining.

So why not bring every person you know to this show and start talking about our periods as openly as your morning coffee.https://thebutterflyclub.com/show/ovariacting-a-period-drama
