Outpost Project 2011 is an explosive urban art movement; the first of it's kind in the Southern hemisphere. Endeavouring to showcase diverse, eclectic and energetic street art. Taking over, invigorating and transforming the abandoned factories and grungy alleyways that are Cockatoo Island.
Between the 4th of November and the 11th of December, you can come out and experience this free event, undertaken by more than 150 extraordinarily talented and unique artists, along with curators Sydney Harbour Federation Trust and aMBUSH Gallery.
Renowned international and local artists such us ROA (Belgium), Ethos (Brazil), Kid Zoom (USA/Australia), Anthony Lister (USA/Australia) and the Everfresh Collective (Australia) will amaze and awaken you when you arrive on the island to see large-scale installations, live art creations including aerosol art, stenciling, paste-ups, sticker art, cup rocking, sculpture, murals and billboards. While some of these artistic expressions might not be too familiar to you, you can be sure that you will never forget them once you've experienced them.
A must see is George Shaw's Oi You! Collection, boasting works by Os Gemeos, Swoon, Faile and the influential, best-known street artist, Banksy.
Amongst the street art you can also explore many other intriguing happenings including galleries, demos, artist battles, DJs, tours and art making projects to engage and inspire people of all ages. You can also get your hands on your very own unique creations throughout the retail spaces on the island, where there'll be T-shirts, hats, tote bags and more.
