There are plenty of cafes to go to on the Sydney's Northern Beaches but it's often those small tucked away cafes that have perfected the art of great coffee and awesome food. Brimming with energy and passion, Outpost Espresso is one such place. I have to admit I have been to this cafe over a dozen times and have never been disappointed.



It can be busy on the weekends with early morning walkers, local surfers or just the curious. A cosy place where you can pull up a chair at the communal table or perch at the window overlooking a large leash free dog park.



Bench seating is also available outside and this area is often teeming with dog owners and their friendly pooches.



The Campos coffee is easily seen as soon as you enter the cafe. An assurance of a quality brew is always promising and the food is pretty special too. You can order from a display cabinet bursting with freshly made sandwiches, croissants, muffins, health bars and rolls.





If you want to just sit in, you can order a bacon, egg, tomato relish spinach roll, a healthy acai breakfast bowl or toasts coated in sliced avocado or smoked salmon. If you are nearer to lunch, then choose from a selection of healthy bowls filled with edamame, eggs, salmon or tuna. On the day of this review, we ordered smoked salmon and cream cheese on toast, a bacon and egg roll and an edamame egg, avocado bowl, strawberry, mint and pineapple juice and of course, our Campos coffees.





The bacon egg roll is pre-made but toasted so it came out with a warm crunchy roll with a sweet tomato relish sauce. My partner ordered smoked salmon, cream cheese and capers on toast. A squeeze of lemon added to the fresh flavours.





I was keen to start the weekend off healthy and ordered the edamame, egg, avocado and smoked salmon bowl. It was as healthy as I expected, crunchy and creamy.



My only wish was that instead of pre-cooked eggs, that they had come out just cooked with gooey insides to cover the edamame beans. The warm egg would have really added flavour to this nutritious meal.



We had a friendly chat with some other patrons at the table then set off for our morning walk around Long Reef Golf Club, past the beach to the headland. If we were lucky, we might have spotted some whales!
