Built in 1946, the historic Outpost Café in Canungra is a nice place to stop for lunch or afternoon tea while exploring the Scenic Rim.
The Outpost's pies, which are baked on the premises daily, were recently voted by 92.5FM's listeners as the best in the country. Unfortunately I am going to have to take their word for that since there weren't any vegetarian ones available. They did have a vegetable quiche and numerous other veggie options, such as veggie burgers and Dutch poffertjes (tiny pancakes served with jam). There are coupons available on the cafe's website for a free tea or coffee with every purchase of poffertjes.
[ADVERT]The mini cheesecake was also delicious and a good sized portion since it was so rich.
There are tables outside, which we found nice and cool on a pleasant spring afternoon. The café is all on one level with no steps which should make things easy for prams or wheelchairs. There is also a gift shop attached if you are looking for a little something to remember Canungra by.
If you have kids who need to run off their cheesecake there is a park with a playground situated opposite.
