The Adelaide Zoo and Splash Adelaide are joining forces to bring Adelaide a brilliant school holiday activity for children to take part in.

It's the zoo's 130th birthday, and to celebrate they are letting wild animals out on the streets of Adelaide.

Don't be too concerned - no street preachers will be devoured by hungry lions!

Out of the Zoo takes place over two weeks. In the first week (April 14-18) internationally renowned artist Emma Hack and local artists will publicly paint life size sculptures of some favourite zoo residents - a giraffe, panda, tiger and orang-utan - in Hindmarsh Square.

In the case of bad weather, Hindmarsh Square events will be moved to the Adelaide Zoo rotunda. Check the Splash Adelaide website for updates.

Ossie the Orang-utan

During week 2 the animal statues will prowl about Adelaide, lurking ready to pounce and surprise you at prominent locations around the CBD.

If you see one, go to the Splash Adelaide website and tell them who you saw, where and when, for your chance to win a zoo visit or a wonderful opportunity to get up-close to Adelaide Zoo's animals.

The competition opens on April 22, and prizes include family passes to Adelaide Zoo. All participants will also go into the draw to win amazing zoo experiences including Big Cat Interactive, Meet the Primates, Panda and Friends and a Giraffe brief encounter.

And remember, no cheetah-ing please!

Featured artists will be:
Sunday April 14 – Fredrock painting the panda – Adelaide Zoo rotunda (10am – 4pm)
Monday April 15 – Emma Hack painting the giraffe – Hindmarsh Square (10am – 4pm)
