From writer and performer Tamara Creasey, comes Out of Order , a hilarious workplace comedy about a group of office workers who have an emotional meltdown when they’re unable to get their Monday morning coffee fix. Directed by multi-award-winning actor and comedian Wyatt Nixon-Lloyd, Out of Order premiered at the Blue Room Theatre on 29 April 2025. It stars Daniel Buckle, Tristan McInnes, Georgia McGivern, Alicia Osyka and Tamara Creasey who also wrote the show. Out of Order was the first full-length writing debut for Creasey, a 2018 graduate from WAAPAA, who has a background in writing, improv, puppeteering, comedy, and has toured and performed with the Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, the Barking Gecko Theatre Company, and the comedy group The Big HOO-HA. Her inspiration for Out of Order was to explore how people react when sacred workplace rituals are interrupted.

Out of Order was one of the funniest shows that I have seen at the Blue Room Theatre. When I first read the synopsis for it, I smiled. I thought the idea to set it in an office was a stroke of comedic genius. An office is the perfect setting for chaos, drama, rituals, and politics. The idea of the Monday morning coffee run being a ‘sacred ritual’ is an interesting one to me. I have never thought of it like that before, but it is true. Getting a coffee from my favourite place after I arrive at work is so comforting for me. Whenever that gets interrupted, it can ruin my whole day.

There was a lot to like about Out of Order. As someone who has worked in an office most of her adult life, I smiled when I saw how much effort had gone into the set design. It felt like I was walking into an office. There were some really talented performances in Out of Order. The relationship between the characters reminded me a lot of the gang from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The cast were all fantastic, but the one performance that stood out to me the most was Tristan McInnes, who was a comedic force. There is one moment in the show when he points a finger at someone and makes a sound halfway between a strangled gasp and a deranged laugh. The entire audience, including myself, just lost it with laughter.

As the show became more absurd, I was impressed with the lengths that the performers went to entertain the audience with slapstick and physical comedy. As their characters became more unhinged, they began flipping over tables, throwing things, fainting, and vomiting on the floor. It was unbridled chaos but also had the flow of a choreographed dance. One of my favourite moments was when Daniel Buckle began stomping around the room with his shirt unbuttoned and his feet jammed in paper bins. It was pure absurdity and the audience just loved it.
