Have you ever admired the artistry of a beautifully glazed, handmade piece of pottery created as a favourite cup, bowl or vase and imagined trying to make a piece yourself? Now you can at Our Space, Brisbane.
Having opened in 2022 by owners Jacqui and Jess, Our Space Brisbane offers, well, the space to, as they describe
"feel clay slipping through your hands as you create your masterpiece"
Built over two levels with a small outdoor seating space, Our Space combines a studio with a cafe where art and coffee come together in a mix of endless possibilities of creativity. Pottery is also thought to be good for your health and well-being as a natural stress reliever that increases emotional stability and happiness.
With that in mind, I decided to stop by this corner-side cafe and creative studio at Newmarket Road at Windsor as a place to create artwork yourself, see those created by others, meet friends or take some quiet time to yourself for a morning coffee.
The Our Space CafeComing off the street level of Newmarket Road, the first option of my Our Space experience is to simply sit and enjoy a coffee or light snack from the cafe. The simple, clean, scandi-style cafe with wooden stools and a powder blue and white palette is calm and without fuss. The full-length glass windows let in loads of light and offer a great view of the comings and goings of the busy traffic thoroughfare outside.
Here you can purchase coffee, tea and chai, pastries, light snacks, sparkling water and juices.
There is also a more private dining room behind the cafe counter space with tables, chairs and soft relaxing sofas to enjoy your coffee and be surrounded by a collection of artisan handcrafted pottery pieces on display to admire or purchase.
If outdoor is more your style, there is a small space at the back of the shop off the carpark with soft chairs to lounge about.
The Pottery StudioThe studio is on the upper level and can be accessed by the small set of stairs beside the cafe. This is where all of the creative pottery magic happens. Exploring your inner artist should be something for everyone and Our Space facilitates this happening by providing the space, access to materials and time for you to dive into making pottery.
The studio is an open, light-filled space with bench space and a collection of potters wheels. The public can sign up for a Studio Membership which is $79 per month. Members can book in and use the studio facilities in a 4-hour block for $7.50 for wheel throwing or hand building. Members are also entitled to a range of other discounts on products and more.
This is perfect, particularly for those who have a level of pottery skill already and just need space and materials to make their next piece.

If you want to add to your collection, a selection of finishes are available to purchase. I was particularly captured by the pretty and functional juice squeezers with individually carved lemons around the centre. Perfect for cooking or a morning juice made manually.
Yoga
Our Space also offers a variety of yoga classes to stretch and renew your heart, body and spirit. I am not a yoga aficionado but I was interested to see that several styles are offered such as

- Joga
- Vinyasa Yoga with Ellie every Monday and Friday at 9 am
