'Home' is a large scale project by the Arts Centre of Melbourne who filled our streets, parks and favourite city spots with thousands of little house-shaped wooden blocks which were all individually decorated to represent what home means to us. The project unfolded in three stages starting in October when 7,000 little houses were turned into pieces of art decorated to tell a personal story of home through artist-led projects. 'Home' was launched on the Arts Centre Melbourne lawn in January 2015. All the little wood houses were gathered together and displayed in and around a super-sized installation called 'The Big House'. For 16 days celebrations (which are still ongoing till it's culmination on Australia Day so check out the program on the Arts Centre website) followed with free workshops, music and performances. Everyone was encouraged to 'connect' by taking a little house and placing it in a public location, then photographing and sharing it on social media. The little house was then left for the next passer by to discover. Each voyage was tracked and shared online for everyone to enjoy.
This whole exercise was to get community support through donations to ensure the wider community experiences the joy of the arts and to discover their inner creativity. To donate to 'Home' simply download the form or contact Nick Hays by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (03) 9281 8059. Arts Centre Melbourne acknowledges all their donors to the 'Home' appeal. See you at the Lawns on Australia Day!
